After Hours Red Ale Can Design

Mediums: Illustrator
Size: 8x6”
Client: Niagara College Student Administrative Council

When the Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC) was approached by Railway City Brewing to create a custom beer for the student pub, I was assigned to create the can design. Paying homage to the original student’s medieval-themed pub’s name, we decided to call the beer “After Hours”. After some brainstorming and mood board creation, I decided that sticking to the medieval theme but giving it a modern look would be the most effective design direction for the can. The main focal point of the can is the shield featuring the beer’s name. In the background, I created a castle that features a few easter eggs, such as a Knight’s head in one window, and the college’s greenhouse cat, Scout, in another window. The striped hills in the background represent the vineyards at the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus, and the star pattern in the background adds additional texture and detail to the design. This Red Ale is now enjoyed daily by students at the NCSAC pubs on both Niagara College campuses!
